Recent Banner Upgrade at Statewide
Many users here at UAA are experiencing issues with the use of Banner within either Internet Explorer version 7 or 8. With the deployment of Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3, versions older than Internet Explorer version 7 cannot be used. The Desktop support team has identified the issue and has provided us with a “work-a-round” that seems to be successful on the machines tested on so far. The file jvm.dll needs to be renamed, then a copy of jvm.zip is downloaded, extracted and copied to the location where the old jvm.dll file was.
  • Install JInitiator 1.3.1.30 in all browsers you use for Banner first.
  • Open the following directory depending on your OS:
    1. Windows XP -- C:\Program Files\Oracle\JInitiator 1.3.1.30\bin\hotspot
    2. Windows Vista x64 -- C:\Program Files (x86)\Oracle\JInitiator 1.3.1.30\bin\hotspot
  • Rename jvm.dll to jvm.old
  • Open the attached jvm.zip and copy jvm.dll into the same directory that jvm.old now exists.

UAA's Efforts to Further Reduce Spam
In July, UAA/IT migrated the University’s anti-spam/anti-fraud service to next-generation technology provided by IronPort Systems which was recently acquired by Cisco Systems, Inc.  The new service has produced some spectacular improvements in reducing unwanted email across the entire University.  It has also given our staff the opportunity to further refine how the IronPort equipment is tailored to meet our unique needs.
