IT Services announces a new Dell computer hardware purchasing agreement with Government Computer Sales (GCS).
The agreement was negotiated by a committee representing various UAA departments and disciplines. Purchasing standards were developed and approved for two PC platforms: Basic and Technical Workstations. The establishment of these standards provides a consistent installed base of computers for use throughout the institution. Workstation standards will be reviewed on an annual basis to address campus needs. Each workstation specification includes options for components such as memory, video cards, hard drives, and monitors.
We are working with Dell to provide a UAA specific preinstalled software configuration for all Basic and Technical Workstations arriving on campus. The standard software configuration consists of: Windows XP Professional, Office XP Professional, Norton Antivirus, and other software covered under various UAA Site Licenses. These software images should be available within the next four weeks.
The agreement supports both institution and personal computer equipment purchases.
Institutional Purchases: Purchases can be made through a UAA specific Dell e-commerce site. Orders totaling less than $2,500.00 (including shipping) can be made by UAA ProCard. Orders totaling more than $2,500.00 can be saved as an e-quote and submitted to Procurement for the creation of a Purchase Order.
Additional information and instructions for accessing the UAA Institutional Store, as well as details on the current Standard Workstation Specifications, can be obtained by visiting the following URL: http://technology.uaa.alaska.edu/computer/purchasing/.
Personal Purchases: UAA Students, Staff and Faculty can purchase personal workstations by visiting http://www.govcomputersales.com/ua.personal. Systems purchased through this site will not have UAA Licensed software preinstalled. Dell provides standard basic software (e.g. Operating System, device drivers, etc.) with each system. The individual purchasing the system is responsible for purchasing additional software.
