The new UAA Technology Website was developed and is maintained by the UAA IT Services Web Team. The site is to be a destination for technology resources and services at UAA. This includes information resources and self-services. With a new look, provided by Pango Media, the site is clean, professional and holds more of an institutional look.
Back End Engine
On the back end, the site is driven by a content management system (CMS), Commonspot CMS by Paperthin. The site serves as a model for other UAA organization and department sites. Content owners and contributors are able to easily update their own content without going through a middle man or messing with HTML or a scripting language. Needs for custom applications can also be accomodated.
Site Audience
The site was designed with its audience in mind. The design team thought critically about how the site could be more self-service to the students (current and prospective), staff, faculty, departmental techs and administrators, the larger technical community within UAA (including departments, committees and organizations), and people from outside the University.
Goals
The goals for the technology site are on-going. These include:
- Providing as many services in a self-service format as possible.
- Including all technology services at UAA, not just technology services that IT Services offers.
- Providing representation to all areas of technology at UAA.
Web Site Phases
The Web site development project is divided into phases. The launch of the technology site is the completion of Phase 1. Near the end of summer Phase 2 will be released. Phase 2 will include a new section: New to UAA. This section is for students, faculty and staff new to UAA. Another large piece of Phase 2 includes UAA statistics and metrics for security, email, web, network and other technology areas.
