UAA Faculty and staff can use Exchange services. Users must be part of Active Directory and logging on to the UAA domain to get full use of Exchange services with MS Outlook.
Exchange offers the following benefits:
Web-based access
Convenient web browser access to nearly all Exchange features, including mail, calendaring, contacts, tasks and public folders
Calendar and Meeting Management with Microsoft Exchange
Exchange allows users to view and share calendars. This allows for workgroup and inter-department collaboration and meeting scheduling. Users can easily schedule meetings by viewing each person’s availability.
Task Management with Microsoft Exchange
Assign tasks to yourself and others along with update notifications.
Personal Storage with Microsoft Exchange
All Exchange users receive personal and department network storage. These appear as mapped network drives (in My Computer), assigned as H: for a personal folder and X: as a department folder. Size limit is 100MB and 500MB respectively. This network storage system frees up local disk space and provides a central file storage area for departments.
Shared Storage with Microsoft Exchange
Departments can also request a public folder. This folder is accessible from Outlook or Outlook Web Access . This can provide file storage, calendaring and task management for your department. Permissions can be assigned to each item limiting access to individual Exchange users. The size limit on public folders is 500MB.
ITS Desktop services can do the work necessary to convert your current email and computer setup to an Exchange setup. This will be charged to your department at the regular rate of $60/hr. Windows 2000 or XP with Outlook XP or Outlook 2003 is recommended. If your system does not meet these recommendations Desktop Services can upgrade it.
Unified Messaging
Users of the new Voice Over IP (VOIP) telephone system can have their email appear in their Exchange email InBox for convenience.
