All student web content published on the student web hosting server is subject to the University of Alaska Anchorage's Appropriate Use Policy. Students should read the Appropriate Use Policy before publishing information to the student hosting server.
IT Services maintains the right to monitor any student account for inappropriate use. If IT Services receives a valid complaint, students will be notified by an email sent to their UAA email account and the web hosting account will be suspended until the offending piece of content is removed. When the content is removed, the account will be reinstated.
Student Web Account
All students have web accounts on the hosting service student.uaa.alaska.edu. You can get to your account by going to http://student.uaa.alaska.edu/Your UAA Username. Your UAA Username is the part of your email before the @ symbol. This is the username that you use to log into webmail or Blackboard.
Publishing Webpages
To put up a website you will need an FTP client. You can download an FTP client at the downloads page under the heading "Other Resources". To publish your web content, you will need to setup your FTP client. If you need instructions on the setup of your FTP client, please see the Web Knowledge Base. Your client will use the following FTP information:
- FTP Host: student.uaa.alaska.edu
- Username: your UAA username (same as for checking email/blackboard)
- Password: your UAA password (ssn same as your email password)
Naming the Default Document
The default document should be named "index.html" this is the document that will be displayed if someone goes to the URL http://student.uaa.alaska.edu/Your UAA Username. Most HTML editors will allow you to change the name of your default document.
Disk Quotas for Student Hosting
All student hosting accounts are allowed 10MB of disk storage.
