Email Upgrade Instructions

This article explains how to update your e-mail program with the correct outgoing server settings. It's important that you make this change before May 15, 2005 in order to still send mail.  The only change needed is to switch your outgoing mail server name  to smtp.uaa.alaska.edu. If you're an Exchange user or only use webmail you won't need to change anything.

Where to make the changes

Windows-Outlook Express 5-6, Outlook 2000

1. Tools > Accounts

2. Select your mail account > Properties

3. Click the Servers tab

4. Change the Outgoing mail (SMTP): to smtp.uaa.alaska.edu

 

Windows-Outlook 2002 (XP) or Outlook 2003

1. Tools > E-mail accounts

2. Select View or change existing e-mail accounts, then Next

3. Select your mail account > Change

4. Change the Outgoing mail server (SMTP): to smtp.uaa.alaska.edu

 

Windows-Netscape 6-7, Mozilla

1. Window > Mail and Newsgroups

2. Edit > Mail and Newsgroups account settings

3. Select Outgoing Server (SMTP)

4. Change the Server Name to smtp.uaa.alaska.edu

 

Macintosh-OSX Mail

1. Mail > Preferences

2. Accounts

3. At the bottom, click Server Settings

4. Change Outgoing Mail Server to smtp.uaa.alaska.edu

 

Macintosh-Entourage and Outlook Express 5

1. Tools > Accounts

2. Select your Account > Edit

3. Change SMTP Server to smtp.uaa.alaska.edu

 

Optional - If you have your e-mail program configured to search the LDAP directory

 

After the upgrade, any users who use the LDAP directory to look up e-mail addresses will need to change their setup as well.  The new LDAP base DN will change from o=uaa.alaska.edu to o=uaa.alaska.edu,o=isp.

Instructions for Windows-Outlook 2002(XP) and 2003

1. Click Tools

2. Click E-Mail Accounts.

1.  This will open up the Email Accounts window.   

2.  Click View or change existing directories or address books, and Click Next

3. Select the UAA LDAP directory, and click Change

4. Click More Settings.

5. Select the Search tab

6.  Change the Search base to o=uaa.alaska.edu, o=isp

7.  Click OK

8.  Click Next

9.  Click Finish

 

You will need to restart Outlook to use the new directory settings. To search this directory within your address book you must use the advanced find under Tools > Find

 

Windows-Outlook Express 5-6

1. Tools > Accounts

2. Select the Directory Service tab

3. Select the ldap.uaa.alaska.edu account

4. Click Properties

5. Select the Advanced tab

6. Change the Search Base to o=uaa.alaska.edu, o=isp

 

Windows-Netscape 6-7, Mozilla

1. Window > Address Book

2. Select the UAA ldap account

3. Edit > Properties

4. Change Base DN to o=uaa.alaska.edu, o=isp
