Configuring for Network Printing

This document provides both guidelines and instructions for connection to an existing network printer using UAA’s network. Using this document will allow you to share printers with multiple computers within your office.
Requirements
A computer with Microsoft Windows 2000, XP or a Macintosh computer running OS 10.x.
A network printer that is already installed using a valid static IP address. If you do not know your printer’s IP, please speak with your system administrator.

Windows XP/2000
To setup 2000/XP, a network printer port will need to be created.
- Click Start-Control Panel.
- Double click Printers and Faxes
- Double click Add Printer
- You will see a new printer wizard window. Click Next.
- Make sure you choose Local Printer. Click Next.

- Choose “Create a New Port” and select “Standard TCP/IP Port” from the drop-down menu. Click Next.

- Enter the IP address of the printer you wish to connect to. IPs at UAA always use the following convention: 137.229.xxx.xxx The Port Name field will be filled in automatically. Click Next.

- You will be presented with a list of possible printers. Use the left column to select the manufacturer and use the right column to choose the model. If your printer is not listed, check the software packaged with the printer or visit the manufacturer's website for correct driver files. Click Next.

- Choose a name for your printer. Use a name that makes it easy for you to know which printer it is, as you may have multiple printers in your office. You can also choose if you want this printer to be your default. Click Next.
- Choose “Do not share this printer” even if multiple users print to it. Click Next.
- You should choose to print a test page to make sure you successfully connected. Click Next.
- Click Finish.

Macintosh OS 10.x
1. Open your hard drive and click Applications-Utilities-Print Center.
2. If this is your first printer setup, you should be sent directly to the Add screen, of not, click Add at the top of the window.

3. From the drop down window, choose “IP Printing”. Type in the IP of the printer in the white box. All UAA IP addresses use the following convention: 137.229.xxx.xxx

4. Choose the manufacturer of printer from the drop down menu. It will then prompt you to select the model. If it is not listed, use the software that came with the printer, or go to the manufacturer’s website and download the correct drivers.

5. Click Add. The printer will now be added to your printer list.
