This document explains how to publish content to your UAA web account using Dreamweaver for Windows or Macintosh. It is limited to moving web files to your UAA student, staff or faculty website at UAA, and does not include information on how to create or design web pages using Dreamweaver.
Dreamweaver MX for Windows or Macintosh can be purchased at an educational-discount price at the UAA Bookstore or from several local retailers.
On University of Alaska computers, Dreamweaver is available as managed software from http://www.alaska.edu/keys. Follow the instructions below the download tables for installation and use of managed software. You must be connected to the University of Alaska network while using Dreamweaver from the keys site.
Web Account: Student web accounts (10MB of space) are created automatically for registered students. If you are staff or faculty (20MB of space) you can request an account online at http://technology.uaa.alaska.edu/computer/WebHosting/
Macromedia Dreamweaver has a feature called Sites to manage your website files and FTP publishing to your UAA student, staff or faculty website. With this setup, your websites' files are stored on your local computer. The files on your local computer are referred to as the 'local site' and the copy on the UAA web server is referred to as the 'remote site'. In most cases, after you have created or edited website content on your computer you'll want to upload all your files to have the remote site match your local site.
Note: More information about sites and other non-UAA specific Dreamweaver info is detailed in the DreamweaverSupportCenter, available under the Dreamweaver 'Help' menu.
Defining your site in Dreamweaver:
- Before you define a site, create a folder on your computer where your website files will be stored. For example, you could create a new folder in My Documents.
- Define your site by going to Site > New Site and click the 'Advanced' tab.
- Site Name: Choose a name for your site ex. mysite.uaa.alaska.edu
- Local Root Folder: Click the folder icon at the end of the local root folder field and browse to the folder you created for your site. The path should show up in the local root folder field.
- Default Images Folder: You can create a default images folder to store your websites images and graphics. We suggest you create a folder called images inside your local root folder (step 1).
- http:// Address: This is the address of your website at UAA.
- Access: Select the Remote Info category and switch the Access field to FTP
- FTP Host: webftp.uaa.alaska.edu for staff and faculty sites and student.uaa.alaska.edu for student websites.
- Login: Your UAA email address
- Password: Your UAA computer account password
- Check Save and click the Test button to send your login information to the web server. The Test button checks your settings and your ability to connect to the UAA webserver. After you click the Test button you should see the following screen:

Click OK, your Dreamweaver site is now setup.
If you get an error while trying to connect:
