Phone Trouble Questions
Article Number: 1500

I get a high pitch sound on the line when I pick-up the handset on my phone, what's wrong?
You may have a stuck button on your phone. When this happens, just run your fingers over all the keys on your phone to see if it loosens the key. You should obtain dial tone after. If not, call the IT Call Center at x64646, #4 and report the trouble.

My phone has no-dialtone, how can I get it fixed?
Is your line cord plugged in? Check to see if any of your buttons are stuck. If neither of these seem to be the cause of the problem call the IT Services Call Center at x64646, #4 and the technician will try and assist you over the phone, if he/she cannot help you a trouble ticket will be written up for a technician to come on-site. Or you can go to our website at uaa.alaska.edu/its/telephone and fill out the online trouble order form.

I have static on my line, is there anything that I can do to fix it?
Yes. Try a new handset curly cord and a new line cord. If that doesn't fix the problem, please call the IT Call Center at x64646, #4 and a trouble order will be placed for a technician to come on site.

Do you happen to have a cord detangler attached to your handset? if so, please remove it. They tend to produce static on the line after a couple years.

Some of my keys are sticking, what do I do?
If you have some alcohol pads (Chempads), clean your keys, buttons and see if the sticking continues. If your buttons still continue to stick, please call the IT Call Center at x64646, #4.
